About Us
After the massive success of India’s first aided higher education institution under tribal management — Sree Sabareesha College, Murikkumvayal, Kottayam District, Kerala — several tribal welfare organizations came together to pursue a greater vision. These included the Mala Araya Women's Welfare Organization, Mala Araya Youth Welfare Forum, Mala Araya Child Development Association, Mala Araya Young Cadets, Tribal Organic Farmers Forum, Tribal Welfare Cooperative Society, Sree Ayyappa Spiritual Promotion Forum, and the Mala Araya Educational Trust (MET).
The eminent leaders of this movement — Mr. P. K. Sajeev, General Secretary (AMAMS), Mr. K. R. Gangadharan IRS, Chairman (MET), and Mr. M. B. Rajan, Secretary (MET) — were determined to realize the dream of establishing a second higher education institution. They chose Idukki, home to a large tribal population, as the ideal location.
Their firm commitment to offering aided courses, ensuring accessible education for all, led to the founding of TASC — Kerala’s second aided college under tribal management. The college offers 24 aided seats in B.Sc. Food Science and Quality Control (Model III) and 40 seats in BA Economics (Model I).
Vision
The college evolved witha vision of rebuilding the auspicious academic environment of Indian tribal community through quality higher education incorporated with tribal culture, multiple skill emancipation, socio- political main streaming and self-actualization.
Mission
The college provides quality education to all students irrespective of their caste, race, gender or socio-economic backgrounds and to establish higher educational institutions all over India where tribal people live and ensure access to quality education and development of international facilities.
Management
Aikya Mala Araya Maha Sabha (AMAMS) is a leading tribal development organization committed to the empowerment and holistic upliftment of the Mala Araya tribal community in Kerala. Guided by the visionary leadership of Shri P. K. Sajeev (General Secretary) and Shri M. K. Saji (State President), AMAMS fosters inclusive community development through active grassroots participation.
At the heart of AMAMS’s mission is the belief in self-driven, community-led progress. The organization functions through a network of local branches comprising members from all Mala Araya families, ensuring representation and involvement at every level.
To address the diverse needs of the community, AMAMS has established several focused wings:
• Mala Araya Women Welfare Organization – promoting gender equity and women’s empowerment
• Mala Araya Youth Welfare Forum – nurturing leadership and opportunities for youth
• Mala Araya Child Development Clubs – supporting the health, education, and well-being of children
• Tribal Welfare Cooperative Society – advancing economic sustainability through cooperative initiatives
• Sree Ayyappa Spiritual Promotion Forum – preserving and promoting the community's spiritual traditions
• Mala Araya Educational Trust (MET) – enabling access to quality education and academic growth
Together, these bodies work in synergy to promote sustainable development, cultural preservation, and social inclusion within the Mala Araya community. Through its integrated approach, AMAMS stands as a model for participatory tribal development in the state.
